Advocacy in Action: OAPA Testifies for PA Advancement
OAPA continuously identifies legislative opportunities to advance the PA profession and move Ohio closer to becoming the premier state for PA practice.
On March 4, 2026, Government Affairs Chair Matthew Freado, MBA, PA-C, provided in-person proponent testimony before the Senate Health Committee on two bills that we have been monitoring - House Bill 377 and Senate Bill 324.
OAPA supports HB 377 because it modernizes outdated statutory language, clarifies PA authority for laser hair removal services, and allows physician assistants to practice to the full extent of their education and training within established team-based care models. The bill removes unnecessary barriers while maintaining strong safety standards, improving patient access, and increasing workforce flexibility.
OAPA supports SB 324 because is appropriately recognizes PAs as qualified practitioners who may provide direct supervision of general x-ray machine operators. This reflects the reality of modern medical practice, where PAs serve as frontline providers in hospitals, emergency departments, outpatient ambulatory clinics, and procedural settings across Ohio. By aligning statute with current clinical practice, SB 324 helps ensure clarity and consistency within the healthcare team.
The OAPA Government Affairs Committee supports the profession through advancing PA legislative priorities and removing barriers to practice. Please consider sharing your story about how PA practice law impacts you. We also invite your financial support to advance PA advocacy via the OAPA Legislative Fund and OAPA PAC.
