Education
Job Summary:
The Physician Assistant Program at Baldwin Wallace University is seeking an innovative, dynamic individual for the director for clinical education. This is a full-time, 12-month administrative position (non-tenure) in the Physician Assistant Department that reports to the program chair. This person will have the opportunity to hold faculty rank commensurate with experience. Opportunities for clinical practice and professional development are available. Anticipated start date is July 1, 2013.
Primary Responsibilities
Administrative:
* Provides administrative support to the Physician Assistant Program in planning, organizing, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating the PA clinical curriculum.
* Serves as the program and university liaison with institutions and agencies serving as rotation sites.
* Develops students' schedules for clinical rotations.
* Develops site visit schedules, perform visits to clinical sites and works to develop new clinical sites
* Responsible for all aspects of ARC-PA accreditation processes and standards related to the clinical phase of the PA program.
* Notifies PA Department Chair and university administration when new or revised affiliation agreements are needed.
* Serves as the "first line of defense" in addressing student/rotation/preceptor problems, informing and involving the Department Chair and other faculty as appropriate.
* Logs clinical site visits on a regular basis and records comments regarding each visit. Maintains a file for review by Department Chair as necessary. Communicates any preceptor concerns or issues to the Department Chair.
* Reviews and revises the clinical and preceptor manuals as necessary.
* Participates in student recruitment, admission, and selection process.
Academic:
* Proctors end of rotation exams and coordinates activities on call back days
* Creates, administers, and reviews/revises end-of-rotation examinations.
* Teaches or team teaches in the didactic phase as appropriate and per expertise area.
* Evaluates and grades student performance in assigned courses, and submits grades to the Registrar in a timely manner.
* Works with and trains preceptors when appropriate.
* Assures qualitative and quantitative student and preceptor evaluations are performed and recorded.
The primary responsibilities are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all-inclusive. There may be other duties as assigned.
Desired Educational Requirements:
* Master's degree or higher in a physician assistant program from a regionally accredited college or university and previous teaching experience in a health care capacity (clinical or classroom)
* Completion of an ARC-PA accredited program or its successors or predecessors
* Licensed or eligible for licensure as a PA in the State of Ohio and current NCCPA certification
* Minimum of five years of experience in patient care as a practicing physician assistant
* Knowledge of theories, practices and content required in given area of expertise
* Must complete a background check
