HB492 - The PA Bill

HB492, the PA Bill, has been introduced in the Ohio General Assembly and assigned to the House Health Committee.  The sponsors of the bill are Representative Scott Wiggam (R-Wooster) and Joe Miller (D-Amherst).  HB492 has not yet received its first hearing.

Included in the bill are changes to the law that would:

·     Decouple national accreditation from licensure.
·     Rename the PA/physician “supervision agreement” to “collaborative agreement."
·     Eliminate physician liability for the actions of the PA.
·     Allow a PA to “pink-slip” a patient.
·     Allow PAs to perform fluoroscopy.
·     Allow PAs to prescribe the medications needed to perform procedural sedation.

HB492 has not received any hearings to date.  The Ohio General Assembly is not meeting due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Once they return it may be just in time for summer recess then the November elections.  If HB492 does not get passed by both the House and Senate by December 31, 2020 it will die and will need to be reintroduced in January 2021.
