Mercy College and its Masters of Physician Assistant Studies is unique in the emphasis of patient-centered care throughout all of the courses in the program, as well as during any interprofessional engagement and learning activities. The faculty members embody and embrace seeing the patient as a multi-faceted individual that needs care in all aspects, not just as the ailment that brings them into the office or hospital. They also bring a wide breadth of experience and knowledge, from different settings in the hospital (OR, inpatient, ED, etc.) or outpatient clinical setting, to a wide range of specialties they have experience in. These faculty members go above and beyond in spending time with students, from setting office hours to having leisurely or in-depth conversations when these members are free during the day. They aim to build up students in many realms, such as confidence in one’s ability to share medical/procedural/clinical insight that may not be introduced until later in didactic or during clinical rotations. Each of the faculty members have a passion for teaching and helping students, and also have retained their passions for learning new topics.

For volunteer experiences and opportunities, some students in the Cohort of 2025 have volunteered with Cherry Street Mission Ministries in Toledo, OH. Cherry St. Mission Ministries will partake in many events: from preparing and sharing meals to those in need, helping younger students learn and improve various skills, donation of food and clothes, and many more. These volunteer opportunities occur every day of the week, with certain opportunities happening only during certain days and times. There is also a Junior Achievement (JA) event happening on May 8th in Toledo that Mercy College and studies will participate in. This will be educating 8th-12th grade students in respect to healthcare, and inspiring the young ones to potentially pursue a career in some aspect of healthcare. There will be more volunteer opportunities that are presented in the future, for getting involved into the community is of vital importance to Mercy College and their mission statements.
