Ohio House Bill 963: Modern PA Law for Modern Patient Care

AAPA & PAEA Sue Dept of Education to Protect PA Students’ Access to Federal Student Loans
The American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) and the PA Education Association (PAEA) filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Education in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, challenging the final Reimagining and Improving Student Education (RISE) rule as unlawful. The RISE rule places physician associate/assistant (PA) students into a lower “graduate” borrowing tier for federal student loans, limiting annual federal loans to $20,500 beginning July 1.
Legislative VICTORY: PAs Gain Authority in Laser Hair Removal via HB 377
House Bill 377, sponsored by Representative Kellie Deeter (R-Norwalk), was signed into law by Governor DeWine and will take effect in the coming months. This law give PAs and APRNs new authority to delegate laser hair removal procedures to others and supervise those procedures, power that previously only physicians had. OAPA provided proponent testimony for this bill in both the House and Senate and celebrates its passage.
