OAPA Working for You: Bylaws Committee

“OAPA Working for You” is a column highlighting important behind-the-scenes activities that OAPA committees and leaders do to support members and promote the PA community. We have covered the Government Affairs Committee, Reimbursement Committee, and OAPA Finances. This month, we cover the work of the Bylaws Committee and notify members of an impending amendment vote.

You aren’t alone if reading the OAPA Bylaws does not sound like your definition of fun, but it is important to have a basic understanding of how and why our Bylaws are written. The Bylaws Committee is chaired by OAPA Vice President, Michell McDiffett, PA-C, and works to make sure that OAPA has written rules to guide our affairs that are clear, enforceable, legally sound, and can assist us in handling any new situations or ideas as they emerge. Learn more about OAPA's Bylaws and an impending member vote on amendments.

Student Research: Bond Brewster, Abigail Rollins, and Mallory Knill of Lake Erie College on "Low-intensity Pulsed Ultrasound Therapy (LIPUS) for Nonunion Fractures"

The majority of bone fractures heal within four to six weeks, dependent upon the type and structure of the bone. However, the delay in healing and failure of successful union of fractures is defined as a nonunion and occurs in 5%-10% of fracture patients. Learn more about the use of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS), also termed low-intensity ultrasound (LIUS), technology in the treatment of nonunions with this new research from students at Lake Erie College.

Spatholt Danielle

Op-Ed: Danielle Spatholt, MSBS, PA-C, on OAPA Engagement as a Solution to Burn Out

More PAs than ever are considering a career change. Feeling burnt out and stuck in your current position is not uncommon. I hear this from my own team and when I talk to consulting clients, and I see it on PA social media. We are facing increasing demands at our workplaces and in our personal lives. It can be difficult to understand why you feel stuck, but engagement with your professional association may hold the key to moving forward.

blood drive

PA Program Blood Drive Challenge

As part of OAPA's mission to provide accessible healthcare, we are proud to announce our 2024 Blood Drive Challenge! Each PA program in Ohio is asked to donate blood products to combat the emergent need across the country.

PA-Cs are also encouraged to participate and may submit their donation to the school of their choosing. This event will run throughout February, and the program with the most donations will win $100 for their Student Society. Donate today to save lives and help our students!

PPE

Free PPE from Ohio Department of Health

The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) is offering non-sterile personal protective equipment (PPE) to you at no charge. The PPE (gloves, masks, gowns, hand sanitizer, etc.) was purchased as part of Ohio‘s public health response during the COVID-19 pandemic. The PPE’s “use by” date will expire in time, and ODH wants to put it to good use by offering it to those who can use it now.

Those who are interested in requesting PPE should complete an order form.

Here are shipping options:

  • If you have a FedEx or UPS account, ODH can use your account to ship your requested PPE items to your location.
  • ODH can arrange for you to pick up your order at the ODH Warehouse located in the Columbus suburb of Groveport.
  • If your facility is within 25 miles from the ODH Warehouse, ODH will deliver orders of 5 or more PPE cases.

If you have any questions about this PPE offer or shipping options, please contact the ODH Warehouse at RSS@odh.ohio.gov or 614-491-9013.
